27th Sunday I attended meeting at the Tabernacle. Orrin Smith preached
in the Morning from Connecticut his fathers name was Joseph Smith
He was followed by Joseph Young. James Townsend spoke in the afternoon
I attended prayer meeting in the evening

Brother Woodruff: As a sunday morn- ing pleasure we sit down to write altho the weather is so hot that our river run like oil. The House of Representatives have refused to pass the Army appropriation Bill, without a proviso that no part of the Army should be used to support the Territorial Government in Kansas against the Free State party. Two Three weeks now closes the session and very little can be done to benefit anybody, several hundred private Bills must be laid over. The Country is suffering from severe drouth. The general cry from all quarters is for rain. The wheat harvest has been very abundant. When I first came here and learned Brother Bernhisel's feelings I felt quite uneasy and half a notion to ^try to^ push our Bill into the Senate Dr or no Dr, one day while ^praying &^ reflecting upon the subject I dropped to sleep on a Soffa and dreamed, that there was a large train of Cars that I had to start I laid hold of them and pushed with all
