in the morning to the saints from the following words
"whatsoever ye sow that shall you reap" I told the people
that if they sowed good principles in their own minds
& in the minds of their children that they will bring
forth good fruit which will tend to exhaltation & glory
so can we judge of the nations of the Earth if they indulge
in sin wickedness & abominations & their Children are
brought up in the same they must expect to reap the
whirlwind arrow & death, Judgment sorrow wo &
destruction. We should warn our children of all
danger & escape all sin ourselves we were here in
these vallies through the mercies of God & we should
make an improvement by our situation

Discourse 1854-01-22
W Woodruff The Saviors language was always very simple many parables were brought to the understanding of the p[eo]pl[e]. We expect to gather a crop of the same set of seed that we sow & the quantity will be according to the soil on which it is sown ^L Snow^ if a person sows good fruit he expects to gather good & if he sows bad seed he expects to reap bad we have every thing as a people to expect to receive good if we look at the world we see evil & discord [a]r[e] on the increase daily & war is made on those who endeavor to maintain riteousness Jesus & his followers shared the same fate & if we expect to do good we shall be opposed in those principles if we had not met with opposition we sho[ul]d not have been in these mountains we ought to improve our time & seek to do good the Elders r zealous in maintaining those principles & wish their lives among all manner of men these duties rest upon us if we were to persecute our fello men for their religion we sho[ul]d reap the same if we do wrong we shall reap evil whatever object people train up their children those things will be done when the children gro up we realize that the [Kin] of God will continue to increase until the work is closed if we impress upon the minds of our children what we no they will not be under the necessily of unlearning our traditions there is a heavy responsibility resting upon us in regard to our children which will be far richer to them than gold & teach them riteous principles that we ma[y] be justified
