Stephen Arnold Douglas

Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813-1861) was born 23 Apr. 1813 in Brandon, Rutland Co., Vermont. He was the son of Stephen Arnold Douglas and Sarah Fisk. He married Martha Denny Martin on 7 Apr. 1847 in Rockingham Co., North Carolina; widowed 19 Jan. 1853. He married Adele Cutts on 20 Nov. 1856 in Washington D.C.. He served in civil leadership positions in Illinois when Joseph Smith was martyred and when the Saints, including Wilford Woodruff, left the state. He died 3 Jun. 1861 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.
