we have all this consolation of knowing that there is a God who will guide the Storm unto the End, and give every man and nation their just due—for which we feel thankful; we can see the word of God and prophecies of Joseph, Brigham and other prophets, ancient and modern, fast fulfilling upon the Earth, espe- cially in the United States.

I was with the President till 1/2 past 10 o'clock hearing the Washington and other letters read; your joint letter to President Young shows the dark shade of the political Horizon; all right, there is a God in Israel who will guide the storm and pay every man and Nation their just due; and may God Almighty hasten it is my prayer; the words of Joseph, Brigham and the prophets are fulfuilling.

The preaching of the First Presidency has been soul tirring indeed. We may safely say in a measure that such sermons were never heard before, as have been delivered unto us of late by the prophet of God, and they are weighing the people, and the people feel that they are dealing with the quickening spirit and power of God which discerned and knows their hearts and they feel the importance of repentance and baptism for the remission of sins and leading holy lives before God that we may be prepared for the events which await the whole earth. In some of the settlements in Davis County every one has gone forward and been re-baptized, and we anticipate the same result will follow in G. S. L. County.

We are in the commencement of a great reformation, the Presidency are preaching the strongest and most heart searching & powerful sermons that I ever heard delivered in the church and kingdom of God

The cares which rest upon President Brigham Young and his counsellors are immense, but the Lord gives them wisdom to foresee the evils and warn the Saints to pre- pare for them. The course of Zion is onward. Come, brother Zera, and cast in your mite.

President Young was so lame in his feet that He had to be carried in a chair By 3 men all through the house but at last before we closed the power of God came upon him He aros from his chair walked unto the stand and spoke 30 Minuts in the power of God in the last sentance He uttered he struck the lowar stand with his hickory cane full of knots that sunk the knots into the solid wood so deep that they will remain there for a generation if their holes are not filled up. I have sent to the Editor of the News this day, all the procedings of the day, the prayes, speaker &c but when you read the speach of president Young, you will never learn by that all that He said for we could not publish it. the services occupied 3 Hours.

The Death of our beloved President has cast a gloom over the entire community yet, there is a degree of resignation that one could scarcely have antici- pated which clearly indicates that
