John Witherspoon

5 Feb 1723 - 15 Nov 1794

John Witherspoon (1723-1794) was born 8 Feb. 1723 in Gifford, East Lothian, Scotland. He was the son of James Witherspoon and Anne Walker. He married Elisabeth Montgomery on 14 Aug. 1748 in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland; widowed 8 Oct. 1789. He married Ann Marshall on 30 May 1791 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., Pennsylvania. He died 15 Nov. 1794 in New Jersey. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the eminent men for whom Wilford Woodruff initiated proxy temple ordinance work in Aug. 1877.
